After receiving a coveted "cool roof" rating for high energy efficiency from the Cool Roofing Rating Council of California in 2008, Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics' SHEERFILL® Architectural Membranes has also recently received an "Energy Star" rating from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Roofing products made with products like SHEERFILL fabric can help cut down on the huge amount which Americans spend to air condition buildings -- about $40 billion annually -- which is about one-sixth of all electricity generated in the United States. Energy Star-qualified roof products reflect more of the sun's rays than conventional roofing materials. These innovative products can lower roof surface temperature by up to 100°F, decreasing the amount of heat transferred into a building. Energy Star-qualified roof products can help reduce the amount of air conditioning needed in buildings and can reduce peak cooling demand by 10 to 15 percent.
