The retractable roof panels of the new Dallas Cowboys (Texas) stadium -- made with SHEERFILL® Architectural Membrane -- are supplied by Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics.
The two fabric-covered roof panels cover more than 215,000 square feet and are a part of a 680,000 square-foot fully retractable roof which is designed to be opened or closed, depending on weather conditions, in just 12 minutes.
It's the largest retractable roof of its kind in the world. When closed, the roof encompasses 104 million cubic feet of volume, making it the largest enclosed National Football League stadium.
SHEERFILL was chosen by the designers of the stadium for the material's light weight and good weather resistance. The chosen material also includes a topcoat of the company's TiO2 based photocatalytic coating technology, SHEERFILL EverClean®. This topcoat harnesses the power of the sun and the rainwater that falls on our earth to naturally clean the material.
Construction is proceeding well; thousands have already toured the nearly-completed stadium, which opens for Cowboys' pre-season games in August. The first official sporting event in the new structure will be a professional soccer match.
SHEERFILL Architectural Membrane products are made at the Performance Plastics plant in Merrimack, New Hampshire.
