When the Talisman Centre for Sport and Wellness in Calgary, Alberta, replaces its roof next year, Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics can take part of the credit. The roof will use Birdair's new TensothermTM product, which is made with Saint-Gobain's SHEERFILL® II Architectural Membrane and a special grade of FABRASORB® Acoustical Membrane.
The Tensotherm material allows a high amount of light to be transmitted into the sports center. It is less than two inches thick but has an R-12 insulation value--five times better than the original structure. The new roof will replace the original Sheerfill roof which was installed by Birdair in 1983.
It's only the second roof of its type to be installed anywhere in the world.
