Al-Maktoum Stadium in Dubai, UAE, is the home of the Al Nasr SC. The 15,000 seat multi-purpose stadium is primarily used for soccer, and hosted 6 games of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.
The stadium envelope was made up of 3 types of PTFE membrane. The main roof was a traditional membrane with about 10% light transmission. The façade was comprised of SHEERFILL Ultralux Architectural Membrane, providing light transmission of 20%, and the inner ring of the roof utilized SHEERFILL Illuminate 28, offering a much higher light transmission of over 30%. These materials were chosen for the long-life, easily cleaned PTFE (TEFLON®) surface and superior fire safety performance.
SHEERFILL® Illuminate 28 High Light Transmission Membrane was selected for the inner ring of the roof to ensure enough light would reach the grass pitch. The use of Illuminate allows for light and visibility through a weatherproof skin.
The reinforcing mesh of Illuminate, based on our SGM materials, bleaches white like traditional SHEERFILL membranes, creating a unified appearance for the full building envelope.
SHEERFILL Illuminate High Light Transmission Membranes are manufactured at the Saint-Gobain in Merrimack, New Hampshire, USA.
